Unlocking the canvas: a journey to understanding art with Dr Jane Eckett

Through no fault of our own, sometimes we may find ourselves unable to properly understand a piece of art. Art Historian Dr Jane Eckett takes us through some art history methodologies to analyse and better understand art, focusing on the work of emigré artist Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack.

Hirschfeld-Mack was among the first students of the Weimar Bauhaus. During the war, he was deported to Australia on the Dunera. After time in interment camps he eventually established himself in the Geelong Church of England Grammar School, Hirschfeld-Mack as appointed its art master.
